IMMEDIATE RELEASE 18th February 2017
A Sunshine Coast mother with a team of UK, USA and Australian health experts has created revolutionary children’s oral health product
NOOSA, Australia — Nearly half of all Australian school kids have seriously decayed baby teeth while in New Zealand 41% of all 5 year olds have rotten teeth.
Thousands of children under four are being admitted to hospital each year to have rotten teeth removed, in some cases all their teeth are pulled, in what the Australian Dental Association is calling a crisis.
In the UK it’s no better: according to Prof Nigel Hunt from the Royal College of Surgeons in London, “The need for tooth extraction continues to be the number one reason why five to nine-year-old children are admitted to hospital.”
More than 100 children every day are undergoing operations to remove decayed teeth, amid concerns that sugar addiction is "spiraling out of control". The number of children admitted to hospital to have several teeth removed has risen by more than a quarter in the last five years – causing unnecessary painful risk to children and at considerable cost to the taxpayer.
Research released last year by the Children's Dental Health Survey for England, Wales and Northern Ireland found that 29 per cent of children aged five from better-off families have tooth decay. That figure for kids from a deprived background is 40 per cent.
In the US, tooth decay is the “#1 chronic childhood illness” and “Nearly one in four children under age five already has cavities…Millions of Americans are living in what amounts to a dental health crisis.”
Children’s Dental Health Month runs every February, and began back in 1941.
Shockingly, tooth decay is one of the biggest childhood diseases. According to the American Dental Association, it is the #1 chronic childhood illness. Tooth decay has painful consequences that require physical treatment, potentially leading to bite problems as the child grows older and impacting self-esteem and confidence. But that’s not all:
It is vital to reduce tooth decay, gum disease dental plaque and inflammation through the body, as these are linked to heart attacks, strokes and type-2 diabetes. In fact, gum disease can increase the risk to type-2 diabetes by a whopping 700%.
Children who lose their baby teeth through gum disease or tooth decay are more at risk of also losing adult teeth.
One way for both adults and children to protect their teeth is by adding the practice of oil pulling to their oral heath regime.
This technique, increasingly recommended by dentists, doctors and other health professionals, involves swishing specific oils around the mouth, which are documented to remove bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites from the mouth.
Angela Wright MBE, Sunshine Coast mother and businesswoman, is raising awareness of this particularly effective oral health technique for children and adults.
Wright created Mintycoco, a unique oil pulling solution, and was shocked to hear Grandson Max, age 4, has to have four baby teeth removed under anesthetic.
Discovering that tens of thousands of young children were having teeth pulled under general anesthetic, Wright set out to also find a solution specifically for children.
Despite the fact that it’s almost entirely preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children.
Wright has developed a revolutionary new coconut oil children’s mouthwash, called MouthMonsters, which traps and removes decay-causing bacteria, viruses, fungi and even parasites.
Children may experience reduced plaque and decay, whiter teeth and a healthier mouth from day one.
Children’s oral health is in crisis, according to the Australian Dental Authority as well as Authorities in the USA, Canada, the UK, New Zealand… with conventional tooth-care not working.
“Children need a solution to combat the #1 chronic health complaint so we set out to find a way to defeat the scourge of sugar and snacking to save children’s teeth. People now realise that losing baby teeth to decay also seriously impacts the health of adult teeth” said Angela Wright MBE, cofounder of Noosa business Mintycoco.
“Flavoured naturally with organic mint and strawberry – children tell us it tastes like icecream. MouthMonsters combines ancient Ayurvedic techniques combined with the latest science so parents can win the fight against sugar and tooth decay.”
In a typical child's mouth there are up to 8 billion microorganisms and 700 different species of microbes.
- According to the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, children treated with significant oral health problems have often been under the age of two
- Adelaide University researchers report that nearly half of all Australian school kids have seriously decayed baby teeth
- In New Zealand “41% of 5 year olds have rotten teeth”
- In the UK, “children’s rotting teeth is a crisis”
- In the US, it's the “#1 chronic childhood illness” and “Nearly one in four children under age five already has cavities…Millions of Americans are living in what amounts to a dental health crisis.”
- In Canada, “Canadian children continue to have a high rate of dental disease.”
- Globally, we are facing “a pending public health crisis”.
Toxins in the mouth and plaque on the teeth directly contribute to ill health throughout the body - as well as rotten teeth and inflamed gums causing bad breath, bleeding gums, mouth ulcers, cavities and tooth pain for children as young as two.
Bacteria and fungi can have direct access to the bloodstream. This is believed to fast-track inflammatory responses, often with serious consequences. If a child is constantly suffering from colds and tummy bugs, the cause could well be in the mouth.
“Old style children's toothcare is not enough. We are not prepared to lose the war for children's health” says Wright.
Dentists and Health Stores are now stocking Mintycoco and MouthMonsters which can also be purchased online: http://mintycoco.com/stockists.
